Virgin River is a soothing antidote to the high-octane TV dramas that are flooding the airwaves. This Netflix series tells the story of nurse Mel Monroe (Family Guy voice actress Alexandra Breckenridge). She packs up her LA life and moves to the quaint mountain town of Virgin River. Here, she mingles with the locals. They deal with issues like pregnancy loss, drug abuse and aging.

Mel Monroe

When nurse Mel Monroe moved to Virgin River from Los Angeles, she didn’t expect a run-down cabin or a gruff town doctor who didn’t want her around. But she soon finds that small-town life can be just as fulfilling, if not more, than the city. At the end of Season Four, Mel learned she’s pregnant with her boyfriend Jack Sheridan’s baby. But that’s not all she’ll be dealing with in the coming episodes.

Jack Sheridan

Virgin River premiered in November 2020 and has become a hit with viewers. The show is set in a picturesque mountain town and the characters face many issues, including pregnancy loss, drug abuse, death, terminal diagnoses, and relationships. The series stars Alexandra Breckenridge as Mel Monroe, who impulsively accepts a job offer in the remote town of Virgin River, hoping to heal her heartache and reenergize her nursing career. She soon meets charming local bar owner Jack Sheridan.

Hope McCrea

Hope McCrea returned to Virgin River in season 4, but her return wasn’t as smooth as fans might have expected. She was on the road to a fresh start, but small-town life proved more complicated than she bargained for. The sociable mayor and town gossip is a welcome addition to the tight-knit Northern California community. She quickly makes friends with Doc Mullins and Jack Sheridan. But she also catches the attention of another man, Denny, who claims to be his long-lost grandson.

Charmaine McCrea

Virgin River may look like a Hallmark movie dose of charming corny escapism, but it also has a healthy sprinkle of emotionally nuanced character development. In Season 3, Jack’s sister Brie moves to town, begins dating Brady and has a medical emergency that leads to a miscarriage. From Mel to Lizzie, the characters in this scenic town all add something special to the show. Their complexities, real-life problems, and heartache make them relatable to audiences.

Preacher Mullins

It’s a busy, complicated week in Virgin River. Hope grapples with memory loss, Brucie learns that Emerald Lumber isn’t really a viable business, and Jack reads Chris’ letter.

The new doctor in town, a brusque Dr. Cameron Hayek, treats a patient who has symptoms of food poisoning. Connie is concocting an alibi for Paige and Wes. Mel and Charmaine butt heads. Ricky and Lizzie share a sweet moment.

Paige Mullins

The likable cast and picturesque scenery make Virgin River a guilty pleasure. But despite a strong fanbase, the show isn’t without its flaws. It is melodramatic, soapy and you can see all the big plot twists coming a mile away. Family Guy’s Alexandra Breckenridge is a charmer as Mel, the big city nurse who finds the heartfelt appearance of small-town life in Virgin River. And Martin Henderson is a crinkly delight as Jack, the town’s can-do bar owner and doctor.

Charmaine’s twins

Virgin River is a warm and fuzzy repelis film that throws the occasional curveball. Its likable characters and light-hearted plotting make it a pleasure to watch. But even the most seasoned Hallmark viewer can’t predict some of its twists and turns. At the end of season 4, Charmaine dropped a bombshell by revealing that Jack was not the father of her twins. This left a huge cliffhanger for season 5.

Brady Sheridan

When nurse Mel moves to Virgin River, she’s swept up in its small-town charm. But she’s soon forced to confront the brutal realities of life in rural America. She finds herself at odds with the town’s gruff doctor and catches up with Jack Sheridan, a former Marine and owner of Jack’s Bar. Despite the lack of high-octane drama, Virgin River is a compelling watch with its likable characters and realistic portrayal of small town life.

Doc Mullins

A nurse practitioner moves to the remote town of Virgin River and begins her job at a local clinic. She bonds with the town and meets Jack Sheridan, who runs the local tavern. Small-town gossip is not Mel’s cup of tea, but she learns to love the community. Tim Matheson is endearing as Doc Mullins, the crusty small-town physician. Martin Henderson is crinkly and laid-back as her love interest and bar owner.
