When players challenge a leader to a battle in Pokemon GO, it can be hard to win. Here are some leaders to watch out for.
People who play Niantic’s popular mobile game Pokémon GO can put all the time they spend finding and training Pokemon to good use by fighting the game’s rotating Raid bosses or protecting Gyms from other teams. They can also fill out their Pokedex and show off their progress to their friends. But for Pokemon fans who think they are the best, there is a chance to fight some of the strongest trainers in the game.
They come in a lot of different shapes and sizes. Some are the leaders of the in-game teams that players can join in Pokémon GO, called Team Mystic, Team Valor, and Team Instinct. Others are high-ranking members of the bad guys’ group, Team Rocket. No matter what side they’re on, these trainers are the best Pokemon battles a player can get outside of private matches.
Decoy Grunts
Even though the Team Rocket Decoy Grunts aren’t really leaders, you can only talk to them when you’re looking for Giovanni, the organization’s boss. In fact, players may have to fight Decoy Grunts several times before they can take on the big boss.
Even though the Decoy Grunt isn’t nearly as hard to beat as the real bosses of Pokémon GO, it can still be a bother for trainers who aren’t ready. Its Bellsprout, Weepinbell, and Raticate aren’t very dangerous, but the Decoy Grunt might be able to throw out a Snorlax in its third place, which could kill a trainer’s best Pokemon if it gets too happy.
Jessie & James
Between taking off again, Jessie and James, two underlings on Team Rocket and fan-favorite rivals, found time to play Pokémon GO as trainers’ temporary opponents. As they arrive on their famous Meowth-shaped balloon, Jessie and James take over running Team Rocket for the rest of their stay.
The last time Jessie and James showed up on players’ battle screens, they were barely a task. Their main Pokemon, like Koffing and Ekans, don’t do much to slow down even averagely strong teams. Trainers should keep an eye on Shadow Scyther and Shadow Pinsir, which are owned by Jessie and James, as the first Pokemon because these Bug-types can be strong, especially when they aren’t expected to be.
Candela
Candela, the fiery leader of Team Valor, will, as you might expect, bring Fire types into fight with her. Even though she has a lot of power, it is not hard for someone who wants to challenge her to put together a team that can successfully counter hers since she relies on Fire types.
Most of the Pokemon she chooses are pure Fire types, so her Great and Ultra League teams only need a strong Water-type fighter to stop them. Even the Combusken and Magcargo, which are both dual-type, won’t slow things down much. Even though Candela’s Master League team is different, it is still easy to get ready for them. A Rock-type attacker like Tyranitar can easily wipe out her picks of Entei, Salamence, and team mascot Moltres. Rock is 4 times more effective against Moltres than against the first two.
Spark
Spark is the leader of Team Instinct. He is cool and laid-back, and as his name suggests, he is great at having Electric-type Pokemon. Most of the time, Spark stays true to his name and only uses Electric types on his different teams. He does, however, like to throw in a curve ball or two, which people who want to question him should be careful of.
Spark starts the fight with a sneaky move called “Castform,” which is a Water-type Pokémon. This is to counter any Ground-type attackers that the other player is likely to bring. His Ultra League team doesn’t keep any secrets, and they have a strong Ground type that can wipe out this area. Spark cheats players again with his Master League team by adding the Rock/Dark Tyranitar, which could make a challenger’s well-thought-out team less stable.
Blanche
Without a doubt, Blanche, the leader of Team Mystic, is the hardest to beat in fight. She is very good at training both Water and Ice types. Trainers have to really think about every part of the Pokemon they bring to fight against her because she can use both types.
Blanche battles with a range of dual-typed Pokemon, such as the Ice/Water Sealeo and the Ice/Dark Sneasel in the Great League and the Water/Steel Empoleon and the Ice/Ground Mamoswine in the Ultra League. This means that players need to bring a mix of typings to deal with her. Blanche really goes all out for the Master League team, bringing Articuno as the team mascot along with Suicune and Metagross. This gives 8 Ball Pool player a mix of strong types to deal with.
Arlo
Arlo is the boss of Team Rocket and has a grudge against Candela of Team Valor. He talks with a proud air that borders on arrogance. His flashy glasses and swept-back hair are proof of this, and anyone who wants to challenge him should not take his Pokemon pick lightly.
Arlo puts a Shadow Aipom in his first spot. The second spot can be filled by Alakazam, Mismagius, or Sharpedo, and the third spot can be filled by Snorlax, Scizor, or Magnezone. Because these potential team members have more than one type, Arlo might be the easiest Team Rocket boss to get ready for. A mix of Fighting, Bug, and Fire types is more than enough to beat Arlo’s team configurations.
Cliff
The huge one In addition to being big, Cliff is very dedicated to Team Rocket and won’t let anything, not even rivals, get in the way of their big plan. Cliff and his teams are tough to beat; any trainer who hasn’t learned and prepared for Cliff’s picks will quickly lose.
Cliff’s first spot is a Shadow Aerodactyl, which is very strong and attacks nonstop, so it can ruin a challenge before it even starts. Slowking, Cradily, or Gallade can move into his second spot, and Tyranitar, Mamoswine, or Dusknoir can move into his third. To beat Cliff, you need a mix of typings. The best types are Steel and Fighting. Steel types are good against Aerodactyl and Cradily, while Fighting types are 4 times better against Tyranitar and Mamoswine.
Sierra
Sierra has always been a problem for trainers to fight. Because she has a lot of different types of Pokemon that don’t have many weaknesses in common. Sierra is by far the hardest of the Team Rocket leaders to prepare for. She will swat away any competitor who isn’t fully committed to picking the best Pokemon team.
Sierra always starts with Shadow Geodude and then either Steelix, Gardevoir, or Sableye in the second spot. In her third spot, she can put either Houndoom, Gyarados, or Victreebel. Trainers who want to beat Sierra must either take a chance and see what Pokemon Sierra chooses, or they must put together a strong team and pray that the Pokemon gods are on their side.
Giovanni
Since Pokémon Red and Blue, Giovanni, the boss of Team Rocket, has always been a tough opponent. He was even the last Gym Leader in those games. A lot of the same things happen in Pokémon GO. Giovanni is even hard to find, let alone fight. Gather a Super Rocket Radar item and look for Giovanni in every Pokestop until they find him. Only then can they fight him. But whenever that chance comes up, Giovanni goes after the player with all his strength.
A Shadow Persian is Giovanni’s first pick. It can fight well even against types that aren’t like it, like Fighting types. Trainers will face Giovanni’s tricky second slot if they beat Persion. This spot can be filled by Nidoking, Garchomp, or Rhyperior. Trainers should use their strongest Ice-type attacker for this phase, but they should keep an eye out for any Rock-type strikes that Rhyperior might have. Giovanni will use a Shadow legendary Pokemon (right now Regirock) in his third spot. This famous monster with superpowers is the hardest thing a trainer can face, and if they can beat it, they’ll get lots of goodies.
