Benefits of Ketamine Therapy

Ketamine Therapy

If you suffer from a chronic condition, there are many different medications that claim to cure it. Some medications merely help with the symptoms of your condition, while others can help remedy its root causes. Ketamine therapy is proving to be very successful in treating many different chronic diseases.

Ketamine therapy is proving to be very successful in treating many different chronic diseases. It’s a fast-acting treatment that can help people with everything from depression and PTSD to OCD, addiction, and even autism spectrum disorder. Ketamine is also used as anesthesia which means it has been given millions of times before without any serious side effects.

Dreamwork Infusion and Wellness Center is one of the leaders in ketamine therapy. Our skilled health professionals can help you figure out if this type of therapy is right for you and the condition you’re dealing with.

Ketamine therapy is a safe and effective treatment for a wide range of conditions, including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety disorders, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and PTSD in children. It also has been proven to be effective as an antidepressant treatment for adults with major depressive disorder (MDD). Ketamine has been used to successfully treat patients with chronic pain as well as those suffering from chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS).

KETAMINE AND THE BRAIN

The way in which ketamine works in your brain can be helpful in understanding why it is so beneficial for medical uses other than anesthesia. Ketamine works by interacting with specific groups of cells called NMDA receptors, which receive messages from neurotransmitters such as glutamate and help to stimulate neurons.

When glutamate is released in the brain too often, excessive excitation of neurons can result. If this cycle is not broken, it can lead to conditions such as depression or anxiety. Some research has shown that NMDA receptor malfunction may be one cause of these conditions.

Ketamine’s direct action on the brain to block NMDA receptors allows new pathways and synapses to form, which can aid in healing existing injuries or illnesses. It also blocks glutamate, a key neurotransmitter involved in memory and emotion. This allows patients to feel calm during surgery and able to forget their past experiences.

Although this drug was traditionally used for its anesthetic properties, at DreamWork we have discovered that it has many other advantages for a variety of illnesses.

KETAMINE PROVIDES MANY BENEFITS

Ketamine, used for anesthesia in surgeries, has a calming effect on the mind and relieves some of the pain associated with procedures. However, its use has extended beyond that of anesthesia and shown success in treating many conditions—including:

Depression, migraines, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), chronic pain, and obsessive-compulsive disorder are all disorders that can lead to headaches.

Ketamine has the potential to decrease the need for narcotic painkillers by helping those who suffer from chronic pain. This is a great advantage since long-term narcotic use can lead to tolerance and complications. If you are suffering from chronic pain, ketamine may be an effective alternative treatment.

Another advantage of ketamine is that it works quickly and continues to work even after it is processed by your body. This is especially true for the treatment of depression symptoms, as many other antidepressants require weeks before they start working and continue to work for only days or weeks if they do.

Ketamine, when administered in a proper manner and at the correct dosage, has no significant effect on breathing rate or blood pressure. This makes it safe for use in surgery, as many other drugs that have a sedating effect can decrease blood pressure and increase the risk of complications.

Although ketamine has been shown to be an effective treatment for many psychological conditions, it is not for everyone. Patients should discuss all aspects of ketamine therapy—including side effects and contraindications—with our staff.

Ketamine therapy is administered by a Health Professional.

Dreamwork is committed to helping patients with chronic conditions, including addiction and mental health disorders, by administering ketamine infusions. Our doctors will determine which type of infusion would be most helpful for you. You’ll make an appointment for your first infusion once we have scheduled it.

At this appointment, we will administer an intravenous (IV) dose of ketamine through an IV line placed in your arm. We monitor you throughout the procedure and one of our anesthesiologists oversees the treatment. You can adjust your dosage as necessary.

Most appointments take an hour or less, depending on how you do and the condition you’re dealing with.

We offer other forms of ketamine therapy including:

Intramuscular injections, nasal sprays, and oral medications are among the options for treatment.

At your initial appointment, our doctors will discuss which treatment route will be most beneficial in helping you fight your condition. Treatment may include infusions of medication at regular intervals, depending on how well you respond and if your symptoms improve.

If you are at your wit’s end and believe that a ketamine infusion may be the solution you have been searching for, please call our office or submit a request online today.
