What to do when Hajj cannot be completed?
During the Hajj, if a person becomes unwell on the day of Arafah and is unable to perform the rituals. He had made the intention of Istithna (exception), then he can leave the state of Ihram, and nothing is obligatory on him. However, if the Hajj was required, the person must perform it another year. In that case, if he did not have this intention and he was unable to complete his Hajj, then he may leave the state of Ihram, but he must sacrifice an animal.
Allah Almighty says in the holy Quran:
“And perform properly (i.e. all the ceremonies according to the ways of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)), the Hajj and ‘Umrah (i.e. the pilgrimage to Makkah) for Allah. But if you are prevented (from completing them), sacrifice a Hady (animal, i.e. a sheep, a cow, or a camel) such as you can afford.”

However, if a sick person chooses to stay after Hajj in Muzdalifah instead of Mina and Jamarat, Hajj is still considered to have passed. What is Hajj Badal?
When someone unable to perform Hajj on their own has a mandatory Hajj performed on their behalf by another person, it is known as Hajj Badal, also known as Proxy Hajj. In other words, performing Hajj on behalf of a loved one who is ill and incurable, old, has a disability, or has passed away is known as performing Hajj Badal.

It is acceptable to perform the obligatory Hajj on behalf of a dead person.
