What to do when Hajj cannot be completed?

During the Hajj, if a person becomes unwell on the day of Arafah and is unable to perform the rituals. He had made the intention of Istithna (exception), then he can leave the state of Ihram, and nothing is obligatory on him. However, if the Hajj was required, the person must perform it another year. In that case, if he did not have this intention and he was unable to complete his Hajj, then he may leave the state of Ihram, but he must sacrifice an animal.

Allah Almighty says in the holy Quran:

“And perform properly (i.e. all the ceremonies according to the ways of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)), the Hajj and ‘Umrah (i.e. the pilgrimage to Makkah) for Allah. But if you are prevented (from completing them), sacrifice a Hady (animal, i.e. a sheep, a cow, or a camel) such as you can afford.”

However, if a sick person chooses to stay after Hajj in Muzdalifah instead of Mina and Jamarat, Hajj is still considered to have passed. But in this case, he is required to sacrifice an animal for each obligation that he failed to do. For not remaining in Mina and for not stoning the Jamarat, he must sacrifice two animals.

If Allah heals him, he should stay and do the Tawaf-al-Ifadah. The final day of the month of Dhul-Hijjah is the cutoff for performing Tawaf-al-Ifadah.

Rulings and guidelines on Hajj Badal (Proxy Hajj)

It is acceptable to perform the obligatory Hajj on behalf of a dead person.

It is required of those who were capable of doing the Hajj but chose not to do so owing to negligence or for any other reason. But who are now unable to do so because of old age, disease, etc., to take a proxy?

A woman can perform proxy Hajj in a man’s place, and vice versa, as long as they both follow their respective obligations.
It is not necessary for the individual performing the proxy Hajj to have previously performed the Hajj, but they should be familiar with its difficulties and rituals.

According to Islamic history and terminology, Hajj is one of the five pillars of Islam. It is a holy journey to Makkah that can be performed by physically and financially strong Muslims. It is obligatory only once in their lives.

However, if a person gets a sudden illness after entering into the state of Ihram, then he should make an intention and be free from Ihram. He should sacrifice an animal to atone for it. You can read all guidance about Hajj before Booking your Hajj Packages.
